brandhabit's interview with
Obsidian Jewels

Q: What inspires you to design?
A: Elements in nature. My most recent collections were inspired by underwater sea life and flowers.

Q: What one word best describes your designs?
A: Transcendent.

Q: If you were to dress one person, who would that be?
A: Grace Kelly.

Q: Who is your favorite new designer, besides your own collection?
A: Jessie Randall (of Loeffler Randall). Her shoes, handbags and new clothing line are fantastic. I went to school with her, and her determination and success inspire me.

Q: What bag do you lust for this season?
A: For daytime, the Kooba "Eden" bag. For evening, the Kotur "Fane Hitchcock" feather clutch.

Q: What charitable cause is most important to you?
A: I'm involved with several charities, as is my company. Most recently, we worked to raise money for Ovarian Cancer.

Q: What did you do before you became a designer?
A: Everything.

Q: What is your secret indulgence (fashion or otherwise)?
A: Nutella!

Obsidian Jewels is the elegant jewelry line designed by Erica Jacobs and inspired by exotic plants and flowers from around the world. In love with color, Erica has captured nature’s magnificent palette in each of her original creations. The line is chic and sophisticated with bold choices in tone and texture. This botanical theme has become her signature look since launching the line in 2005. She has a very successful online business and limited distribution in the Midwest and through exclusive boutiques in Atlanta, Dallas, New York City, and Los Angeles.

Erica graduated from the University of Virginia and then studied design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan. She is a natural talent with an eye for trends and an appreciation for classic style. Her entrepreneurial spirit led her to start Obsidian Jewels, for which she designs two collections a year. Erica says, “My jewelry is fashionable and artistic and can easily translate from day to night. I design with a woman in mind so that when she wears one of my pieces, she feels sexy, confident, and beautiful.” Necklaces are her favorite but she also designs bracelets and earrings, which are her best selling pieces. Prices range from $60 to $350.

She has traveled all over the globe to find hidden treasures of the finest quality materials available. Erica’s designs are each made by hand and incorporate all natural semi-precious gemstones, pearls and beads from the Far East with wire wrapping in 14k gold-fill, gold-vermeil, and sterling silver.

For her Spring '08 collection, she was inspired by underwater sea life and will be incorporating unique materials like stingray leather and rough diamonds.
